In the U.S., the State does recognize restriction on religious practice if it violates law (polygamy, snake handling, drug possession, etc) so the freedom to
exercise is not absolute. In a bizarre kind of twist, the only advocacy I'm aware of lately on the practice of infanticide was put forth by
self-identified Secular Humanists as a possible method of population control.

The notorious Peter Singer, the Ira W. DeCamp professor of bioethics at the University Center for Human Values at Princeton University, one of the world's
most noted philosophers, has drawn much criticism (and praise) for his advocacy for infanticide. I believe he is an atheist. And an Aussie originally.
